ULB-VUB Syensqo Awards

Chaque année, les Syensqo Awards distinguent des docteur·es récemment diplômé·es ayant soutenu leur thèse l’année précédente à la Faculté des Sciences ou à l’École polytechnique de Bruxelles de l’Université libre de Bruxelles, ainsi qu’à la Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).

Un prix pour valoriser l’excellence et l’impact sociétal

Les Syensqo Awards récompensent 5 à 6 lauréat·es par an, chacun·e recevant un prix de 3 000 €.

L’objectif est d’encourager les jeunes chercheur·euses à se former et à s’engager dans la recherche en sciences et technologies, des domaines où la recherche est essentielle au développement des activités industrielles actuelles et futures. Le prix vise également à stimuler l’inventivité et à encourager une réflexion sur la manière dont les travaux de recherche peuvent contribuer au progrès de la société.

Si l’excellence scientifique reste un critère central, le jury accorde aussi une grande importance à la capacité à synthétiser et à communiquer un message scientifique à un public non spécialiste. Les candidat·es sont par ailleurs invité·es à partager leur vision de la contribution potentielle de leurs travaux à une société plus durable.

Each year, the Syensqo Awards are granted to recent Ph.D. graduates who successfully defended their thesis the previous year at the Faculty of Sciences or the Brussels School of Engineering of the Université libre de Bruxelles, as well as at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).

Recognising excellence and societal impact

The Syensqo Awards honour 5 to 6 laureates each year, with a €3,000 prize awarded to each laureate.

The aim of the award is to encourage young researchers to pursue training and research in science and technology, fields in which research is essential for the development of current and future industrial activities. It also seeks to stimulate creativity and to encourage candidates to reflect on how their research can contribute to societal progress.

While scientific excellence remains a key selection criterion, the jury also pays close attention to the ability to synthesise and communicate scientific messages to a non-specialist audience. In addition, candidates are invited to present their own perspective on the potential contribution of their work to society and to a more sustainable future.
