Thanks to his in-depth knowledge of structures and materials, the civil engineer designs and realizes structures in the field of buildings (private or public), industrial buildings, works of art and infrastructures. Respectful of the environment, he/she creates new structures and materials to adapt to the challenges of the field or reduce the carbon footprint of the sector.

Programme

The training of civil engineers is based on three main areas: structures and materials, soil and environmental studies and project management. Theoretical courses, abundantly illustrated by experimental work, visits to construction sites and trips, find their application in the many projects offered by the sector.

In BA3 already, the students carry out the study of a work addressing the aspects of design, choice of materials, structural and geotechnical calculations in collaboration with the engineer architects. The first year, students are faced with a new challenge: re-adapting an existing building according to precise specifications.
Finally, in the last year, the future civil engineers respond to a fictitious, but realistic call for projects in the field of infrastructure development and major real estate projects in collaboration with architectural engineers. An internship in a company and a thesis complete the training.

What's next ?

The construction sector is rich in opportunities. Buildings, factories, bridges, railways, dams, tunnels: civil engineers can intervene at all stages of construction, from design to site management and even beyond, since they are responsible for maintaining and operating the infrastructure. They are therefore mainly found in general construction companies, design and control offices, administrations, but also in research and teaching or the operation of infrastructure.
